Apple Watch conversation recall features enter beta

According to TechCrunch, Apple is beginning to test Audio Intelligence with developers. Live Rewind and Siri Recaps let users retrieve recent remarks or save a summary, with notification and deletion mechanisms whose effectiveness remains to be assessed.

Apple Watch Audio Intelligence features are beginning to roll out in developer beta in the iOS 27.3 update, TechCrunch reports. Unveiled in September, they include recognition of important sounds, music identification and conversation tools. Enabling them is optional.

Live Rewind displays the last 15 seconds of speech as text after a double press of the watch’s crown. An audible signal and an animation accompany the gesture to alert people nearby. According to the article, clips are automatically deleted after 30 seconds if they are not saved.

Siri Recaps has a different purpose: producing a short summary of conversations and identifying their key points. Apple says this feature does not identify speakers, retain raw audio or provide a word-for-word transcript. These characteristics are claims by the manufacturer reported by TechCrunch.

Users can enable recaps manually or set a schedule, then stop them from Control Center. Summaries that are not saved are deleted within seven days.

These features could make note-taking easier when users cannot write. However, their acceptability will also depend on whether people present understand the signals: notifying them that a clip is being recorded is not, on its own, enough to establish their consent.
