Nexus Mods asks creators of new mods to disclose AI use and explain its role when their work is labeled as AI-assisted. The platform favors transparency and filters over a blanket ban.

Nexus Mods is making disclosure of AI use mandatory for new mods uploaded to its platform, The Verge reports. Creations labeled as AI-assisted will also have to include a public explanation specifying where and how these tools were used. The corresponding labels will be more visible on mod pages.

The platform rules out a blanket ban on AI-generated creations. Its owner, Victor Folmann, explains that these tools are used at widely varying stages, from script completion to the generation of textures, voices or complete elements. In his view, a ban would primarily encourage creators to conceal their use.

Nexus Mods is also announcing controls to hide AI-generated content on game pages and the homepage. The platform further states that it will not use mods to train models and that it will neither sell nor license them for that purpose.

Another area of work concerns the visibility of recent creations. The site is testing limits on the number of mods from the same creator displayed simultaneously and is tightening restrictions for new accounts. Folmann links this problem to faster production, while specifying that it extends beyond AI alone.

This policy thus seeks to give users more choice without excluding these tools. Its effectiveness will depend in particular on the accuracy of creators’ disclosures and the enforcement of the rules. The announcement establishes the rules and planned measures, without yet demonstrating their ability to improve the discovery of creations.
